Adding Color to Learning

GreeceB 139When Ian and Anne White, our very dear, (more like family), friends came to visit from from the UK this January, they gifted Ria and Brandon this totally cool fabric.  It looks like a large table cloth with large, pretty prints – houses, lamps, trees and flowers, etc to fill in with color.  She also gave us a set of fabric markers.  I believe the cloth was from IKEA.  Another one of their brilliant ideas!

Normally when we do History or Literature, the children like to make their own notes/ illustrations while listening.  They narrate afterwards.  Today one of those homeschooling mom brainwaves (mercifully) came to me and I ventured into, “Hey, how about something different?”

Out came the fabric, we cleared the table except for our maps and spread it out.   While I read they colored.     IMG_8833The children chose pictures that were appropriate for the reading.  A lamp, since we were studying Florence Nightingale, fruits and flowers and a pretty hospice to go with the theme.  Work house depictions in grey and browns for Oliver Twist.  Then they printed in names and dates under and around their coloring – I thought it very cool!

IMG_8834When we fill it all in, I figure we can make pillow cases or cushion covers with the fabric and add some history to their decor!  IMG_8836

They certainly enjoyed it!  Thank you Anne and Hannah (Anne’s daughter) for adding some color to our day!IMG_8847

About Probhita

Quite ordinary, really. Where I do consider myself extraordinary is in that I have been tremendously blessed with the sweetest family and the best of friends. It is nothing short of the richest luxury to be loved as I am! Being challenged to think and break away from status quo is a personal priority. I believe that the Creator of the universe has a plan for my life and random chance is not the way of my existence. I believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. I deeply uphold tolerance - I may not concede to a thought being right - but will always respect its view. The privilege of having the best parents in the world and growing with caring sisters in a rather unique setting is an aspect closely cherished. My youngest sister, despite being oceans away, always remains my closest friend and my biggest encourager! I have a wonderful husband who loves me and two gorgeous children. I presently live in India. This blog is the embarking of a journey with Charlotte Mason's philosophy of education as I continue to homeschool my children. I hope their childhood will be as fulfilling and memorable, if not, more, than mine.

Thought I’d add in a Quote:

That is a great quote! So true! Thank you!
It really was fun – in fact, I felt inclined to do some coloring myself, and I just might one of these days!
